AUDIT-GUARD

AI documentation kit for audit files at 75-100 staff UK accountancy firms.

AI is already appearing in audit planning, data analytics, and working papers. But when QAD or FRC reviewers ask "where was AI used and how did you check the output?" most teams have no standard way to answer. The AI contribution is invisible - a black box.

AUDIT-GUARD is a self-service documentation kit with file note templates, AI usage logs, verification checklists, and ISQM 1 mapping. Fewer "black-box AI" questions during inspections. Clearer evidence that professional scepticism was applied to AI outputs.

WHY

QAD and FRC are asking about AI in audits

Triggers that bring audit partners to AUDIT-GUARD:

  • Teams using AI to summarise board minutes, draft management letters, or run analytics - but no record of what AI contributed
  • Working papers don't identify which outputs came from AI versus human analysis
  • No evidence that AI outputs were challenged, verified, or treated with professional scepticism
  • ISQM 1 requires AI tools to be treated as "resources" in the quality management system - but no documentation shows this
  • Fear that AI-generated analytics are influencing audit conclusions without clear documentation trail

FRC and ICAEW guidance increasingly expects firms to document how AI tools are used, how outputs are verified, and how professional judgement is applied. Without standard file note structures, your audit teams are improvising - and improvised documentation doesn't survive inspection scrutiny.

WHAT YOU GET

Audit documentation, not audit software

AI Usage Log Template

Engagement-level log capturing which AI tools were used, for what purpose, on which workpapers, and who reviewed the output. One log per audit. Import into your existing working paper system.

Working Paper File Note

Standard paragraph structures describing AI use and human review. Drop into any workpaper where AI contributed. Covers purpose, data provided, AI output summary, verification procedures, and conclusion.

5-Step Verification Checklist

Checklist auditors complete when relying on AI outputs. Ensures each output is challenged, cross-referenced, and documented before influencing conclusions. Evidence of professional scepticism.

Partner Sign-Off Template

Completion document for engagement partners to confirm AI-assisted work was properly reviewed. Links to specific workpapers. Creates clear accountability trail.

ISQM 1 Overlay Mapping

Short document showing how AI documentation procedures link to ISQM 1 quality objectives. Helps your compliance partner explain the connection during QAD visits.

Audit Quality AI Diagnostic

10-12 question HTML assessment of your current AI documentation practices. Generates a "QAD Regulatory Risk" score. Identifies gaps before inspectors do.

These are Word templates and checklists you control. No software to install. No methodology replacement. No external platform.

  • Clear, repeatable documentation of AI involvement
  • One log per engagement showing all AI touchpoints
  • Consistent file note structure across all teams
  • Ready answer when QAD asks "show me where AI was used"
  • Verification checklist proves outputs were challenged

Vendor vetting and tool approval. You know which AI tools are approved before teams use them on audits.

4

AUDIT-GUARD: Document audit AI use

Engagement-level AI documentation. Now your working papers show exactly where AI was used and how it was verified.

5

MONITOR-BOX: Annual review

Ongoing monitoring and annual evaluation. Ensures AI documentation stays current.

FAQs

Common questions

Does this affect our audit methodology?

No. AUDIT-GUARD overlays documentation prompts onto your existing audit methodology. It doesn't replace your planning templates, sampling approach, or completion procedures. It adds a documentation layer specifically for AI use - file notes, logs, and checklists that sit alongside your current working papers.

Will this satisfy QAD or FRC requirements?

AUDIT-GUARD supports good documentation practice and creates evidence of AI verification procedures. It does not guarantee that QAD or FRC will consider your AI use appropriate - that depends on how you apply professional judgement. The kit helps you document that judgement clearly.

Do we need the other kits first?

Recommended. AUDIT-GUARD works best when firm-wide AI governance is in place: policy approved (GUV-KIT), staff trained (COMP-KIT), tools vetted (VEND-CHECK). Engagement-level documentation is easier when your teams know the firm-wide rules.
